A Two Day Weekend in Zlatibor: A Simple Itinerary

A Two Day Weekend in Zlatibor: A Simple Itinerary

Two days is enough to get a real feel for Zlatibor without rushing. This plan keeps most of it walkable and leaves room to slow down. Pick a base near the center so you are not driving in and out all day. Apartman Bolero works well for this, about 500 meters from the promenade with its own garage spot, so you park once and walk from there.

Day one

Morning: start with coffee on the promenade and a slow lap around the lake. It wakes you up and shows you the layout of the town. Afternoon: ride the Gold Gondola up toward Tornik. The views over the pine forest are the reason most people come, and you can walk a bit at the top before heading back down.

Evening: eat in the center. Try komplet lepinja if you have not before, it is the local breakfast-turned-anytime dish, rich and filling. Then take a quiet walk back. The center is lively after dinner but it calms down as you move away from the main strip.

Day two

Morning: have a relaxed breakfast at the apartment, then drive out to Stopica Cave. It is about half an hour away and the travertine pools inside are worth the trip. Go early to beat the tour groups.

Afternoon: on the way back, stop at the Sirogojno ethno village to see the old wooden houses, or keep it simple with a forest walk closer to town. Grab lunch at a kafana and do not skip the kajmak and cheese.

Evening: keep the last night easy. A slow dinner, maybe a rakija, and one more walk along the lake before you pack up.

A few practical notes

  • Wear comfortable shoes, most of the good stuff is on foot
  • Book the gondola earlier in the day if the weather looks clear
  • Cash is handy for smaller kafanas and market stalls
  • In winter, check the roads before driving to the cave
