Zlatibor with Kids: A Parent's Guide

Zlatibor with Kids: A Parent's Guide

Zlatibor works well for families. Distances are short, the air is clean, and there is enough to do that kids do not get bored after one day. You do not need to plan much. Here is what actually keeps children happy here.

Right across the street

Dino Park is directly across the road from our apartment on Ulica Sportova. It is a walking trail through the forest with life-size dinosaur models, some of them moving and making sound. For small kids it is a big hit, and the whole loop is easy and shaded. Because it is so close, you can go in the morning, come back for a nap, and return later if they want more.

Easy days near the center

A lot of family time on Zlatibor happens around the center and the lake. Things that work well with kids:

  • The lake promenade, flat and stroller friendly, with paddle boats and ice cream.
  • The small train and other rides that pop up near the center in season.
  • Gentle forest paths for short walks that do not turn into a march.
  • Open meadows where kids can just run around while you sit.

None of this needs tickets booked in advance or long drives. You walk out, spend an hour or two, and come back.

For older kids: the gondola and Tornik

The Gold Gondola is fun for children old enough to enjoy the height, and the ride to Tornik is smooth in an enclosed cabin. At the top, Tornik has an adrenaline park with a zip line, a summer toboggan and rope courses, aimed at older kids and teenagers. Check height and age limits before you queue, since some rides have them.

For food, most kafanas and restaurants are relaxed about children, and grilled meat, bread and cheese are easy sells at the table. With a full kitchen in the apartment, we find parents often keep breakfast and snacks at home and save eating out for one main meal, which keeps the day calmer for everyone.
